You can e-mail any one of the mods directly, or if you prefer, you can reach all of them at the same time by sending an e-mail to StevePerry-owner@yahoogroups.com
Q: I have a complaint about the list. Who do I contact?
A:
Right again. "Elmo" is actually a particular part of Steve's anatomy. This came about after he told a female interviewer, "You can tickle my Elmo!"
Q: OK, then I guess Elmo isn't the little red guy . . .
A:
You're absolutely right. When we speak of Big Bird, we're actually referring to none other than Jonathan Cain of Journey.
Q: I've seen references to "Big Bird", and somehow I just don't think you're referring to the big yellow guy on PBS.
A:

Q: What does (insert confusing internet abbreviation here) mean?
Q: How do I join the weekly chat?
A:
We have an official list chat using the YahooGroups chat feature every Sunday at 8:00 pm, eastern time. List members are welcome to use this chat feature at any time.
Q: Do the list members ever chat?
A:
This is the method the mods have decided to deal with those who choose not to honor our guidelines. The first time it is determined you have broken our guidelines, you will receive a private e-mail from one of the mods explaining the infraction. If the problem persists, you will be switched to "moderated posts". This means every post you send to the list must be approved and released by the moderators before it will appear on the list. If the problem still continues, you will be immediately unsubscribed from the list and barred from resubscribing.
Q: My welcome letter says that first offense gets a warning, second gets moderated posts and third gets me banned. What does this mean?
A:
We understand you may have very strong convictions. Unfortunately, we have had problems with these subjects in the past. Because so many of us have strong convictions, and different convictions, discussions of this nature frequently lead to friction. Therefore, religion and politics, two issues that are best not discussed in mixed company, do not have a home on our list. We are sure that there are a few of you out there that disagree, but in order to keep the list a fun place for all of us, please refrain from overtly religious and political posts.
Q: I have strong political/religious convictions. Why can't I discuss them on the list?
A:
Yes. Keep in mind, though, our list is set up to remove any attachments. Files you might try to send through will not appear. We do ask that you snip the "address list" that seems to appear every time something is forwarded.
For "internet stories", virus warnings, or anything else other than jokes we do require that you research it first yourself (please do not send them to the mods for research) in order to ensure that it is not an internet hoax. Due to our large membership and number of posts, the mods would like to do everything possible to cut down on the amount of "trash" to make things easier for those of us with limited mailbox space or who pay to download. The following addresses are good resources for researching your forwards:
CIAC Hoax Busters -- Good explanation on how to identify a hoax
Vmyths.com - Truth about computer virus myths and hoaxes
The AFU and Urban Legends Archive -- Lots of useful information on a variety of subjects, very current
Hoax Kill
About.com Urban Legends and Folklore
Urban Legends Reference Pages
Hoax Warnings
We also use the following sites regularly to check out any virus claims:
McAfee Virus Information Center
Trend Micro Weekly Virus Report
Keep in mind that the mods will view internet hoaxes sent to the list as a violation of our guidelines, and will deal with them as such. The only exception would be if you sent through a forward that you know is a hoax and you mark the post accordingly (ex. "This is not a true story but I thought you would enjoy reading it anyway!").
Our philosophy is the more informed and aware you are on the 'net, the more and more difficult it becomes for hoaxes, legends, etc. to be spread.
Q: I've just received something in my e-mail that I'd like to forward to the list. Is that allowed?
A:
Editing your replies to the list means:
1) Changing the subject line to something relevant to the post; and
2) Deleting the "non-essential" information in the post.
Many of our list members receive the digest and/or have a limited amount of space in their mailboxes. In order to make the list enjoyable for everyone, when replying to a post, please make sure you leave only the information necessary to understand the reply. And please, Please, PLEASE make sure you change the subject lines!
Q: My welcome letter says we should "edit replies to the list". What does that mean, and why do I need to do that?
A:
As covered in the previous answer, the moderators are here to make sure our guidelines are followed, and to enforce consequences when they’re not. They also take care of the various administrative duties for the list, including (but not limited to) monitoring shared files and bouncing e-mails.
Q: What kinds of things do the moderators do, if they're not approving posts?
A:
The moderators are in place to administrate the list and to make sure the list guidelines are being followed.
Q: So, if this list isn't moderated, why are there moderators?
A:
Not fully. Posts made to the list need not be approved . However, we do have a group of moderators ("mods").
Q: Is this a moderated list?
A:
Although this is the Steve Perry list, it’s just as much about us, the fans, as it is about him. Our off-topic discussions have allowed us to get to know each other better and make us more of a family. Don’t misunderstand, whenever there is any kind of news about "The Voice" it is heavily discussed here.
Q: I thought this was the Steve Perry list. Why isn't anybody talking about him?
Q: I'm currently receiving regular posts/digests. How do I switch?
A:
With regular posts, you will receive each post separately as it is sent to the list. With digests, YahooGroups waits until it has received a certain amount of posts, compiles them into one long e-mail (or digest) and then sends it to you.
Q: What's the difference between regular posts and the digest?
A:
No! Just access your account at YahooGroups and set it to NO MAIL/WEB ONLY. You will still be subscribed to the list, but you won’t receive mail. This way, if by chance you domanage to get to a computer, you can still read posts and post from the YahooGroups site. When you come back, just return your account to the original settings to begin receiving the list again.
Q: I'm going on vacation and won't be near a computer for a while. Should I unsubscribe from the list?
A:
If you have an upcoming event you'd like the list to know about, put it there!
Q: What's this calendar thingie I saw over at YahooGroups?
A:
The shared files are another feature available to list members through YahooGroups. Access them directly at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/StevePerry/files/ or by clicking on "Files" in the side bar at YahooGroups. This is the place to upload things you’d like to share with the list: photos, poems, WAV files, etc. Files will be deleted by moderators after being in the shared files after 3 - 6 months, depending on available space.
You may also share photos by uploading them to the "Photos" section at http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/StevePerry/lst.
Q: I keep reading about the "shared files". What is that?
Q: How do I subscribe to/unsubscribe from the list?
A:
Not yet, but in that same interview, he mentioned there was possibly one in the works.
Q: How about an official site. Does he have one of those?
A:
In a recent interview, Steve said that he does not have an e-mail address or chat online.
Q: Does Steve have an e-mail address or chat online?
A:
Sorry, we just don't have the answer to that question. If you find out, would you mind letting us know???
Q: How do I get in touch with Steve?
